Why VIOLET?

On August 23, 2020, I launched Adelyn's Macarons. During the first COVID-19 quarantine, I spent time creating new recipes and ultimately came to the idea of making my own nonprofit business. One of the first challenges I faced was creating a logo for my business. Inspired by my best friend's battle against Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I came to the idea of a violet cancer ribbon. Hodgkin's Lymphoma is represented by a violet ribbon!

This page is dedicated to Zeena Alzanoon. To my best friend, I love you forever.

What is Hodgkin's Lymphoma?

Lymphomas are classified as cancers that develop in the lymphatic (immune) system. They begin when lymphocytes (white blood cells) experience a change in their genetic makeup. The cells thus become abnormal and begin to grow excessively.

The lymphatic system is responsible for the production of lymphocytes which are essential to a person's wellbeing. Lymphocytes provide protection from infections and harmful bacterias that enter the body. While these cells can keep a person healthy and infection free, when a person has lymphoma, these cells rapidly increase in abundance and invade essential tissues in other body parts.

In patients who have Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a cell called the Reed-Sternberg cell ( an abnormal cell with multiple nuclei) is present.  Young adults, especially teenagers, are more susceptible to Hodgkin's.

Luckily, thanks to numerous advancements over the years, Hodgkin's Lymphoma is one of the most treatable cancers. However, many patients still experience a relapse and further research is still needed. Adelyn's Macarons is dedicated to raising funds towards further research of lymphomas and leukemias.
